This is a beautifully made gilt bronze bodhisattva statue. The bodhisattva sits on a double-layered lotus pedestal, with his legs crossed in a lotus position. His right hand is placed on his chest, with his fingers slightly open, as if he is preaching the scriptures. His left hand is in a teaching gesture, resting on his left thigh. The bodhisattva wears a tall crown on his head, with two braids hanging on each shoulder. His head is slightly tilted to the right, and eyes are looking at the believers. The bodhisattva has long earlobes, and his neck, waist, wrists, and upper arms are adorned with pearl strings, bracelets, and armlets. The bodhisattva’s face is in peaceful and compassionate, with a firm and determined gaze, symbolizing the fearlessness and infinite wisdom of bodhisattva. The lower part of the bodhisattva’s body is dressed in a long skirt, tied at the waist with a silk ribbon, the details exquisitely rendered. The bodhisattva’s body is gilt all over with gold, but the lower part of the lotus pedestal is covered with emerald-like green rust. There is a cast inscription on the back of the inner hall of the lotus pedestal with a trace of gilding on the top of the inscription, which may be the family mark of caster r the year mark of the statue casting.
